Associate Director for Demographic Programs
Dr. Victoria (Tori) Velkoff has spent over 25 years at the U.S. Census Bureau. Currently she is the Associate Director for Demographic Programs. The Demographic Programs Directorate provides relevant and accurate information on the size, distribution and characteristics of the nation’s population, income and poverty, and housing. Demographic programs bridge the gap between censuses, providing information for policy decisions to promote the economic and social well-being of the United States. Additionally, the directorate is responsible for gathering international demographic data; providing survey and statistical services to other government agencies, such as survey design, data collection and data processing; maintaining strong partnerships with sponsors and stakeholders; and designing and marketing new products that meet nationaland international information needs. Previously, Tori led several divisions at the core of the Census Bureau’s mission. When Tori was Chief of the American Community Survey Office, she led the research effort to reduce respondent burden while maintaining the quality of the ACS. Tori has a Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from Princeton University. She has an M.A. in Russian and East European Studies and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan. She has received several Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Awards for her work.
