Session 1 - Keynote Speech

  • Noriko TSUYA Distinguished Professor, Keio University, Japan Noriko Tsuya is Distinguished Professor, Keio University, Japan. Her research focuses on demographic and family changes in Japan and Asia. She was formerly a research fellow of the Population Institute at the East-West Center in the U.S, and was professor, Department of Economics at Keio University from 1998 to 2020. She was a member of the Science Council of Japan in 2005–2014, and the president of the Population Association of Japan in 2018–2020. She is currently a member of the Expert Advisory Board for Japan’s Population Census, and the deputy director of the Statistics Committee of the Government of Japan.

Session 2 - The Impact of COVID-19 on the 2020 Round of Censuses

  • Satoru KOMATSU Director of Population Census Division, Statistical Survey Department, Statistics Bureau of Japan (SBJ) Satoru Komatsu is Director of Population Census Division, Statistical Survey Department, Statistics Bureau of Japan.
    He has been in the Population Census Division since July 2021.
    Prior to his appointment as Director of Population Census Division, he had served as Director of Economic Statistics Division, Director of Consumer Statistics Division and so on.
  • Sharon Pun-wai NG Assistant Commissioner (Social), Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department Ms Sharon Pun-wai NG is the Assistant Commissioner (Social) of the Census and Statistics Department of Hong Kong, China. She is responsible for the overall planning and re-engineering of population census in Hong Kong for reducing the reporting burden, achieving cost savings and improving the quality of census results.
  • Ali SAID Director, Directorate for Population and Labor Statistics, BPS-Statistics Indonesia Director of Population and Labour Statistics, BPS-Statistics Indonesia. He is responsible for conducting population census, intercensal survey and labour force survey including the production of demographic, employment, wage and migration statistics.

Session 3 - Technologies & Alternative Methods in Data Collection

  • Batdavaa BATMUNKH Chairman, National Statistics Office of Mongolia
  • Ji-Youn LEE Director, Population Census Division, Survey Management Bureau, Statistics Korea (KOSTAT) Ji-Youn Lee is Director of Population Census Division of Statistics Korea. She got Ph.D. in Sociology in 2002 and joined KOSTAT in 2003. Ever since then, she has been actively playing a role as a population expert in KOSTAT. Currently she's working on developing future strategies and preparing for Korea's 2025 Census.
  • Oliver FISCHER Chief, International Programs Center, U.S. Census Bureau Oliver P. Fischer is Chief of the Census Bureau’s International Programs Center. In this role, he guides the Center’s efforts in strengthening national population data systems and developing tools to facilitate the census and survey-taking process. Fischer directs the planning and preparation of international demographic, geospatial, health, climate, and economic data products utilizing census, survey, and registration data.
