    Noriko TSUYADistinguished Professor, Keio University, JapanNoriko Tsuya is Distinguished Professor, Keio University, Japan. Her research focuses on demographic and family changes in Japan and Asia. She was formerly a research fellow of the Population Institute at the East-West Center in the U.S, and was professor, Department of Economics at Keio University from 1998 to 2020. She was a member of the Science Council of Japan in 2005–2014, and the president of the Population Association of Japan in 2018–2020. She is currently a member of the Expert Advisory Board for Japan’s Population Census, and the deputy director of the Statistics Committee of the Government of Japan.

    Ji-Youn LEEDirector, Population Census Division, Survey Management Bureau, Statistics Korea (KOSTAT)Ji-Youn Lee is Director of Population Census Division of Statistics Korea. She got Ph.D. in Sociology in 2002 and joined KOSTAT in 2003. Ever since then, she has been actively playing a role as a population expert in KOSTAT. Currently she's working on developing future strategies and preparing for Korea's 2025 Census.

    Oliver FISCHERChief, International Programs Center, U.S. Census BureauOliver P. Fischer is Chief of the Census Bureau’s International Programs Center. In this role, he guides the Center’s efforts in strengthening national population data systems and developing tools to facilitate the census and survey-taking process. Fischer directs the planning and preparation of international demographic, geospatial, health, climate, and economic data products utilizing census, survey, and registration data.

 

 

Session 4 - Overview of 2020 Round of Census Implementation-(1)

    Miosotis RIVAS PENAGeneral Director , National Statistics Office of the Dominican RepublicMiosotis Rivas has held the position of General Director of the National Statistics Office of the Dominican Republic since August 2020. She has a degree in economics with master's degrees in Economic Policy, Gender and Development and Human Development. She has extensive work experience in the Central American and Caribbean region in matters of regional integration, development and public policies, public equality policies, gender mainstreaming and trade negotiations. She has worked closely in strengthening the Central American Integration System, recently as the Executive Director of the Regional Center for the Promotion of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (CENPROMYPE) and previously as the Technical Secretariat for Women of the Council of Ministers of Women of Central America, space from which he promoted the first regional gender equality and equity policy (PRIEG). She was a representative of UN Women in Dominican Republic and has vast experience as a lecturer in different universities. Active member of various feminist and Contemplative Extension spaces.

    Mr. Yusif Yusifov has 24 years of experience in the statistical system. He graduated from the Azerbaijan State University of Economics with a specialization in statistics with a bachelor’s degree in 1997, then with a master’s degree in 1999. He is Ph.D. in Economics (since 2011)
    and Lecturer in the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (from 2007 up to present).
    He is supervisor for the Departments of Quality Management and Metadata; Industry and Construction Statistics; Trade Statistics; Energy and Environment Statistics; Information Technologies and Centre of Scientific Research and Statistical Innovations.

    Sula SARKARSenior Research Scientist, IPUMS Center for Data Integration, University of Minnesota, USAAs a geographer and Senior Research Scientist at the IPUMS Center for Data Integration, I oversee and work with changing administrative boundaries from one census year to another. A big part of my research at IPUMS deals with harmonizing this changing geography and creating a consistent geographical footprint across time and space. I produce datasets, generate GIS maps, and create indices that study the social and environmental impacts on people and place and their associated health impacts.

She has worked at the Census Bureau for over 30 years, serving in several key leadership positions. As head of the Demographic Programs Directorate, she is responsible for providing relevant and accurate information on the size, distribution, and characteristics of the nation’s population, income and poverty, and housing.

Anura Kumara is the Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics in Sri Lanka. He started his career as a Statistician in 1989, and possessed various posts in the hierarchy. He has a bachelor's degree from University of Kelaniya in Mathematics (Special), in 1986. And Post Graduate diploma in “Population & Sustainable development”, from University of Gaborone in Botswana in 2000  and Master Degree in Demography in University of Colombo, Sri Lanka . He has contributed his expertise in various surveys and censuses, and currently he has been working as the Chairperson of the Steering Committee of the next Census of Population and Housing 2023.

She is responsible for designing and implementing 5th Population and Housing Census in 2019; from 2021 up to now, she is responsible for designing and implementing for about 30 surveys a year and 3 censuses on population, economic and agriculture.

    Mritunjay Kumar NARAYANRegistrar General & Census Commissioner, Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, IndiaI, Mritunjay Kumar Narayan, have assumed the charge  as the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India,  Ministry of Home Affairs on 1st November, 2022. In  addition, I look after the work of Additional Secretary to the  Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs.  Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India in Ministry  of Home Affairs is primarily entrusted with the task of  conducting Census in India. The preparations to this effect  are in full swing. Our endeavor is to conduct next Population  Census in India on digital platform.
